Decades vol. 2
(2022)

2000-2010 Graffiti writing in Berlin.

This second volume contains portraits with many photos and personal texts or comments of the following graffiti authors and crews:

CHIKA, CO2, CAMEL, DIKE, DROW, EHSONE, EXOT, FLS, GATE, HK, KAMEL43, KAZE, METRO, MR.IX, MRN, NERZ, PACK, PAST2, RELAX, RINO, ROGER, SABE, SMASH, SKAR, SKEY, SPAIR, TFZ, TIER + P. BERG special with a text by MC BOMBER

Also included in the book are mixed chapters with hundreds of photos of many other graffiti writers and crews from the 00s.

Berlin graffiti in the 00s is characterised by transformation and further development. Many writers from the 90s have given up painting illegal graffiti, a few have stayed and especially many people from the eastern part of the city have followed suit. After the "wild style dictate" of the 90s, the forms of letter design are now pluralising. The repression against illegal graffiti and the professionalisation of writers in dealing with it are increasing, and the number of graffiti on trains is rising enormously. So a lot of the illustrations in the book deal again with the discipline of train writing. Another major theme in Decades vol. 2, is the massive change in the appearance of Berlin, especially in the eastern part of the city. The brown, crumbling façades and the gaps between buildings are disappearing along with the fire walls. With them, graffiti streetpieces of an entire decade are being lost. Prenzlauer Berg is particularly affected; in no other place in Berlin is the radical transformation of the city as clear as here. Berlin is getting its new hip face.

The writers portrayed in this volume talk about their personal development, their perception of the change in the city and how the styles and the aesthetic evaluation of these have affected their artistic work and the angles of view. The result is another comprehensive work with deep insights into the different characters, ways of thinking and lives of the protagonists depicted.

1990-2000 Graffiti writing in Berlin.

The first issue portrays writers and crews between 1990 and 2000, with the fall of the Wall kicking off the graffiti boom in Berlin. In the aftermath, a huge adventure playground opened up for Berlin writers, with unresolved police courts and a sometimes disoriented adult world creating the ideal breeding ground for what is now probably the largest and most active graffiti scene in the world. The focus is on the application of graffiti on trains, which is also the subject of most of the pictures and texts in the book, but uncensored private pictures and graffiti on walls are also presented.

This first volume contains portraits with many ph…

In addition to the many illustrations, a large number of personal texts by the writers provide a unique insight into their experiences and perspectives.
