Farbzüge
(2025)
It is the year 2015. Photographer Emmett Edelstein took photos of painted trains in Berlin for years. But unlike many local trainspotters who back then often documented pieces in straight station shots, his approach went far beyond that. The object to take photos of were not only pieces, but trains with colour on them: "Farbzüge" (coloured trains). Looking for unique spots to capture trains rolling between the stations and stage the works writers put up on them became his citywide mission as well as new and refreshing atmospheric photos different than the common trainspotting aesthetic.
Ten years ago a limited edition of "Farbzüge" was the first book published by Hitzerot. To celebrate the anniversary the photographer decided to publish a revised version of his premier publication. While a few shots have been replaced with some new photos from the hardcover’s respective years (2012-2015), most of the content stayed the same. Several images are now presented in larger format what makes them even more enjoyable.
Only one book cover with the neon yellow sticker unlike the first edition from 2015.

Farbzüge
(2015)
The photographer Emmett E. from Berlin has documented graffiti on S-Bahn trains in the past years. The result is 144 pages long and shows big impressive photos. Farbzüge is numbered by hand. There are three different book covers; each one has one of the respective stickers. Those stickers are usually used by train drivers, who frantically put them on the pieces.
“Color on a train. Barely any other art is as short-lived as graffiti. Considering the work put into every single piece a photo of it is indispensable. However, the focus of the photo does not necessarily have to be on the graffiti. When I take pictures, I want to show real and authentic moments. The train that runs through t…

Schriftzüge
(2025)
"Schriftzüge" (trains with writing on them) is the sequel book to Emmett Edelstein’s classic "Farbzüge" (coloured trains) from 2015. For the 10th anniversary of Hitzerot the first volume was re-published in a slightly improved edition. When planning the re-issue the photographer realized that he had tons of new material collected since the original release that has not been published yet.
Although spotting the Berlin S-Bahn was not Emmett’s photographic main focus in the last decade, he anyway captured many trains of writers he admired and followed their activities for years. Also the days were over in which he could invest countless hours to bring home the one ou…
